The Pilgrim Relics of Saint Martha in the Philippines

The Pilgrim Relics of Saint Martha in the Philippines was launched in a Solemn Mass presided by Reverend Father Lloyd Paul T. Elauria, OFM, on July 28, 2023, Vigil of the Solemnity of Saint Martha at the Diocesan Shrine of Saint Martha and San Roque Parish Church in Pateros, Metro Manila. It aims to reach parishes, private and government institutions, schools, and hospitals to promote the compassionate intercession of Saint Martha, friend of Jesus, especially as the “wonderful protector of nurses” and “patroness of mothers and social workers.”

SAINT MARTHA, VIRGIN AND DISCIPLE OF THE LORD
A daughter of rich and noble parents, Saint Martha lived in Bethany two miles from Jerusalem. According to Saint John, Jesus loved Martha, Mary, and Lazarus. He often stayed in their house whenever He was in Judea. It was there where He spent the last days of His Mortal life. Saint Martha accompanied her sister, Saint Mary, and her brother Saint Lazarus into Gaul, where she closed her holy life. Her sacred relics are venerated at Tarascon, in Provence.

THE RELIQUARY BUST OF SAINT MARTHA
The Reliquary Bust is an official exact replica of the 18th century Reliquary Bust of Saint Martha made in cooperation with the Royal Collegiate of Saint Martha in Tarascon, France where Saint Martha is buried. It was solemnly blessed by the Very Reverend Father Joeffrey Brian V. Catuiran, JCL, Chancellor of the Diocese of Pasig on December 22, 2018, enshrining a first class relic (piece of bone) of Saint Martha from the Vicariate of Rome on its front window, stone from her house in Bethany on its left window, and stone from her tomb in Tarascon on its right window.
